Printful, Printify, Gelato and Tapstitch are each free to sign up and charge no monthly fee: you pay for each product and its shipping only when an order is placed. Their paid plans are optional and only lower product prices: Printful Growth at $24.99 a month; Printify Premium at $39 a month, or $24.99 a month billed yearly; Gelato+ at $29.99 a month, or $19.99 a month billed yearly, and Tapstitch names none. Of Printful, Printify and Gelato, which print the same T-shirt (Bella+Canvas 3001), Gelato delivers it in the US for the least today: $16.08.

- Is print on demand free to start?
- Signing up is free at each of these, and nothing is charged until an order is placed, so the first cost is usually a sample of your own design at the regular price (Printful takes 20% off samples). Your sales channel charges its own fees: Etsy, for one, charges $0.20 for each listing (renewed with each sale), 6.5% of each sale and 3% + $0.25 for card payment, on the item price plus the shipping you charge.
- What does a free plan limit?
- Mostly how many stores you connect: Printful, unlimited stores, plus up to 10 printful quick stores; Printify, 5 stores per account and unlimited product designs; Gelato, 2 connected stores and 2 users. Product prices on the free plans are the regular ones.
- When is a paid plan worth it?
- Only once its fee is smaller than what it takes off the products you sell each month. Printify states its plan price for every product, so its page works out how many items a month cover the fee. Printful Growth and Gelato+ state an "up to" discount, so check the plan price of your own products before you subscribe.
